RE: NC10 and skype
hello good folks, for a good month i have been testing jolicloud and i have been pleased with the performance. they are still behind on some of the issues that Voira already resolved through his golden repository. ( i intend to send the jolicoud team link to this forum for them to learn one or two t...

RE: Ubuntu battery life vs. WinXP
I have never really used the NC10 under winXP and cannot tell about the battery life there but under ubuntu on average i get around 5h with everthing on and brightness quite high. No serious work though just browsing, text editor, etc. no video and audio. If I switch the wifi when I don't need it an...

RE: Linux ALSA patch for better sound support
I can confirm the what nero23666 posted. after the update there were some substantial changes. now skype does not work and the options are different. I have not played much around with it but from first attempt nothing seemed to work. :( There was a sound lib update a few days ago. Now my sound does...

RE: NC10 - JAUNTY WEBCAM and others
I have always had the problem with the window sizes of some applications - not much to do here since some of them use a fixed window width or the minimum you can downsize it is still outside the little 10' screen. What I do is to always have 4 workspaces and move the window to stretch over top and a...

RE: Mercury cannot load webcam
I don;t have experience with this software but I have noticed that the webcam does not work in flash plugins such as those for image capture in facebook (to change your profile pic). In those instances I use cheese to take the snap and then upload instead.

RE: 8.10 to 9.04: upgrade or complete re-install?
I honestly do not know which one is better, however I am much interested to find out.
I am also considering the netbook remix. currently i am downloading the image and will load it on a usb live disc to give it a try.

RE: Boot time ?
I have not timed it recently but it took something like 80sec to wireless connection established. to be honest the booting time has been a bit disappointing. When I start the XP installation it seems to bot faster. Of course I have never used it under XP so the installation is rather fresh. we all k...

RE: [nc 10] WebCam issues
I also have Cheese. I had only used it for capturing stills so I quickly ran a test. Only resolutions below 640*480 worked fine for me. The first 20sec under 352x288 were not usable but then started recording nicely. I had firefox running with a heavy web page and another application in the backgrou...

RE: [NC10] New Ubuntu 8.10 repository for our favourite netbook!
VoRia, you are the best. I did as you advised: enabled proposed repositories and updated it to 2.6.27-13; then I added your repository and updated; finally I did the Fn-F5 fix. Everything just works including the F9 :) I am now to update the ALSA drivers to the new Ubuntu as you mentioned to fix the...

RE: [NC10] How to fix the problem with FN keys
thanks mate, I suppose I was not quite clear when saying no other keys work. all those that work out of the box continue to be operational. Right now I have the ESC, F2, F10, F11, F12, Home, End, VolumeUpDown, BrightnessUpDown. The F6 - mute - it has visual effect, i.e. it changes the volume icon in...

RE: [NC10] How to fix the problem with FN keys
Thanks for the post and the additional explanations. I have done all the steps described above and finally my screen brightness keys work. Thank you very much for that. Other than that, it does not seem that any other Fn keys have been enabled. My F4 & F5 are still dead. Is there an additional k...
