Re: Testing needed for the new Samsung Tools 2.0

Hi I haven't installed the Oneiric yet. But, looking at the source code, it looks like the new samsung-laptop driver doesn't support the PCI method of controlling brightness, only SABI. If that's indeed the case, then it's real pity. I liked the PCI mode and used it for a good while. At the very lea...

wireless resume woes again - with solution

Hi I've installed the latest kernel and samsung-wireless recently and noticed that the wireless does not come back after suspend-resume (again). I've got * Samsung N140 * kernel 2.6.38-11.49~ppa1~loms~natty * samsung-wireless 0015.1013.2010~ppa2~loms~natty I've done some investigations and found tha...

Re: backlight - enabling control with hot keys (solution)

No, I haven't seen the udev variant. And, as I am using Kubuntu Maverick, I don't have KDE 4.6 myself yet. In KDE 4.5, the code that makes the decision is in "kdebase-workspace" package, in file "solid/hal/halpower.cpp". Judging by the name, I am afraid, it will be gone in 4.6 if...

Re: samsung-backlight - wider brightness range (fyi)

Hi voRia,
Could you apply the attached patch to the samsung-backlight.c
It
* adds N140 to the list of supported devices
* adds logging to the PCI branch (the current version of the driver is completely silent if PCI mode is chosen so it's not clear from dmesg what's going on)

Re: backlight - enabling control with hot keys (solution)

Hi voRia,
I wonder if you could add this file to the samsung-backlight package,
so that people did not have to fix this manually.

backlight - enabling control with hot keys (solution)

Hi I've got Samsung N140 and I am using the latest Kubuntu 10.10 (with all the voRia's extra packages). The brightness control is working for me now using all kind of ways EXCEPT the hot keys. If I press Fn-Up/Down, I get the pop-up with the current brightness, but it does not move and the brightnes...

samsung-backlight - wider brightness range (fyi)

Hi I've got Samsung N140 and I am using the latest Kubuntu 10.10 (with all the voRia's extra packages). One thing that annoyed me about the brightness control (after I made it work that is, which is another story ;) ), is that I could not make the screen dark enough. If I pushed the brightness all t...

Re: samsung-wireless after resume

Hi voRia, I wonder if you could make the changes described in my 3rd post above (mbdub used to be my alias). Now that this works in all environments. I kind of feel bad that I pushed you in the wrong direction and it got stuck there. Also, the "right" way has the advantage that you'll get ...

Re: Kernel 2.6.32-26 is missing driver r8192e_pci.ko

I don't know if this is related to your problem
but since mid-November-2010 the wireless driver coming with
samsung-wireless is called r8192e_pci_realtek.ko

Re: Maverick - samsung-wireless conflicts with in-kernel dri

Hi jowyta, Actually, I entirely agree with you. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. What I was trying to say is that, ideally, I want the reltek driver to become part of the Linux kernel (instead of the RTL8192E driver that is currently there). Then everyone can benefit from it. Imho, the guys who are main...

Re: Maverick - samsung-wireless conflicts with in-kernel dri

jowyta : However, what we could really do with is the built in kernel drivers working properly, then they would be available for everyone. We seem to be getting progress in that direction. I have just tried a 2.6.36 kernel with the 3 firmware files obtained using Debian's firmware-realtek package (...

Re: samsung-wireless - driver version

to voRia - great job, thanks.

to jowyta - yes, I see your point. I've already tried to raise the question of coexistence of the two drivers in the thread "Maverick - samsung-wireless conflicts with in-kernel driver", so I'll reply in there.

Re: HOWTO: Enable the FN-F4 key (LCD/VGA switch)

Ok, so the following works for me on kubuntu (maverick). 1) Download the switchscreenlayout.zip from the previous post. 2) Unzip the script to eg $HOME/bin unzip switchscreenlayout.zip -d $HOME/bin/ 3) Open "System Settings" / "Shortcuts and Gestures" / "Custom Shortcuts&quo...

Re: samsung-wireless - driver version

To jowyta, No, it _is_ actually "that simple". In fact, if you check the beginning of this thread, voRia has updated the package to v14 version of the driver just a month ago. If we new there was a newer version of the driver available, we would have saved him the trouble of updating it ag...
