Looks like acpi_backlight=vendor was already set by default and it still isn't working.
However, maybe this is a kernel/acpi bug then (or not implemented feature).

Hi, Not sure if this is a Linux On My Samsung issue or not. I've got a Samsung N210 with a fancy-pants Pixel Qi screen. On Ubuntu 11.04 with the samsung-tools, I could toggle the backlight off, and then still use the display (outside or wherever) because the pixel-qi screen doesn't need the backligh...
