Re: Samsung Series 7 Laptop Fan Constantly Running
You need the samsung-tools package for keyboard and screen backlight fn controls as well as a functioning speedstep control. This requires a kernel with support for the module "CONFIG_SAMSUNG_LAPTOP". I found that the samsung-tools util did not do a great job with binding to the fn keys th...

Re: Touchpad on Samsung serie 7 NP740U3E
Good news, looks like there is a patch for elan v7 touchpads: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/9eebed7de660c0b5ab129a9de4f89d20b60de68c I confirmed it works on kernels 3.9.3 and 3.10.0. I now have 2 finger scrolling, button emulation, the whole works. My xinput now lists "ETPS/2 Elantec...

Re: Keyboard Backlight on Samsung NP740U3E
Yeah I actually installed it with uefi. In any case, I just realized that the adaptive brightness still works so the keyboard backlight turns on when I'm in the dark. I guess that's fine with me Just a warning, I have yet to hear anything definitive about the bricking potential of uefi samsung lapt...

Re: WARNING! Caution needed with new UEFI devices!
I would stick to using good old mbr/bios/cmos/grub. I have not heard a particular yes or no as to whether the newer samsungs are still affected by this bug. Staying away from uefi (even though stub loading is quick and slick) seems to be the safer course of action.

Re: Touchpad on Samsung serie 7 NP740U3E
I too spent way to many hours trying to get multitouch to work on my 740. It is really annoying as the clickpad doesn't really allow both mouse buttons to be clicked at the same time for 3rd button mouse emulation. I have to use shift-insert instead for pasting between my browser and xterms. The bug...

Are either of you using uefi? If so, the samsung laptop kernel module may not be loading as I believe it is blacklisted at the moment.

Re: Keyboard Backlight on Samsung NP740U3E
Do you have the CONFIG_SAMSUNG_LAPTOP kernel option enabled? I believe that this kernel option is required for full functionality out of the samsung-tools package, at least it was on my 740. You need to make sure that you have installed linux without uefi, as due to the current bricking potential of...
