RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
The problem with hanged system seems to be sorted out, I'm uploading the new linux-backports-modules package on my repository. Here is the changelog: linux-backports-modules-2.6.27 (2.6.27-13.15~ppa7~nc10) intrepid; urgency=low * Updated compat-wireless to master-2009-03-13 * Applied patch to enabl...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
I'm adding a new version of the linux-backports-modules package on my repository . As you can read in the changelog, I updated the driver sources to the latest snapshot available (2009-03-10). This new backports made no difference in my wlan issue. Works like the original 27. kernel ath5k. Forcing ...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
Then try the new kernel, you can take it directly from jaunty, you have to just download the deb file ( link ) and install it. :) It will not replace your current kernel and, if any problem, you can uninstall it through the package manager. Maybe you will need the linux-backports-modules package fo...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
In my opinion reinstalling everything would be just a waste of time. The ath5k module is under heavy development, it's much more probable that you are experiencing some incompatibility due to its experimental state... I suggest you to test latest development source, and to file a new bug on linux k...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
I'm sorry, I really don't know from what it may depend. :( The only advice I can give you is to try the latest snapshop of the driver (look here ) and see if your problem has been fixed in it. Maybe I have got some sort of a driver conflict? Iwconfig "auto" does not work, but forced 11M w...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
Strange. The fixed packages from repository take care about blacklisting old modules etc. Did you enable the proposed repository? Without it you have the 2.6.27-11 kernel, while my fixed linux-backports-modules is for 2.6.27-13 only. Yes, it is 27-13 all now. Did dot delete any old packages. Just u...

I also have Cheese. I had only used it for capturing stills so I quickly ran a test. Only resolutions below 640*480 worked fine for me. The first 20sec under 352x288 were not usable but then started recording nicely. I had firefox running with a heavy web page and another application in the backgro...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
Oh, I thought you were using the same wlan module as me, taken from my repository :P Then, maybe this is the reason. I'm using my own 'linux-backports-modules' package ( link , this is for kernel 2.6.27-13), built with an updated source code (2009.02.05 snapshot) with 2 patches applied, one of them...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
If in auto-mode, "Network Tools" shows 1Mb, but the real traffic according to net speed meters varies beginning 180kb and up to 500kb. If forced to 11M, "network Tools" shows 11M, and the real traffic according to net speed tools is close to my broadband roof = 1.3M. Changing th...

RE: [nc 10] Wlan issues
For me, sticking with default bitrate (auto) works good. Here the bitrate is automatically adjusted between 1Mb and 36Mb (I think it depends on the signal quality, and it's not that good here :(). Setting the bitrate to 54M means that you force the card to work always to that speed. If the signal q...

Still picture shooting works fine using: Cheese Luvcview wxCam But for me, video only works using wxCam: Cheese starts, but crashes afted few frames. Luvcview fails recording video (mjpeg error reported). wxCam works for 640*480 resolution including audio from headset mic. Strange enough: Others hav...

Strangely my wlan speed in nc10 is unstable. Varying 180k...1.3G. 1.3G is about my broadband roof. Fix: sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M Now speed keeps to 1M...1.3M (3G broadband in router). But the slow gear is back, when nc10 is restarted? "Fix": iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M to /etc/rc.local Wou...

RE: [NC10] How to fix the problem with FN keys
Hi! To get the 2.6.27-12 kernel you have to enable the -proposed repositories. The official ones have the 2.6.27-11 yet. Anyway, for completeness of the howto I'm going to put back a link to the fixed 2.6.27-11 kernel, for users that prefer to stick with standard repositories only. Check the main p...

RE: [NC10] How to fix the problem with FN keys
The non-working FN keys is perhaps the most annoying problem that we encounter right after a new Linux installation on our favorite netbook. If you try to change the screen brightness the keyboard does not work anymore. This is not that kind of problem you can simply ignore... it has to be quickly ...
