Voria, maybe you should put a giant red "Don't use xorg.conf" somewhere.
@vox: is it enabled in the fdi file (check previous posts)?

RE: [NC10] How to fix the sensitivity of the touchpad
You need to enable SHMConfig /etc/hal/fdi/policy/shmconfig.fdi <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <deviceinfo version="0.2"> <device> <match key="input.x11_driver" string="synaptics"> <merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="...

RE: [NC10] How to fix the sensitivity of the touchpad
Don't touch the xorg.conf file! As voria said, the file is not necessary anymore, but it WILL override hal settings when it is used. The best thing to do is to change/create an fdi file Also, the changes voria made only affect the synaptics touchpad (the change is made in the corresponding fdi file,...

RE: NC10 Temperature
The average temperature values vary with the used CPU speed. Are you using frequency scaling? I mostly use the ondemand governor, which lets the cpu run at 800mhz most of the time. In that case, CPU temperatures vary around ~50°C. Playing h264 video usually causes the cpu to run at full speed, the t...

RE: Boot time ?
Considering boot time, I would opt for sabayon (Gentoo based, if you are new to linux and generally not tech savvy, I would not recommend starting with it). If you'd like to try, there are a few improvements to be made to the ubuntu boot time. The init system used by ubuntu is called upstart, which ...

RE: [NC10] How to fix the sensitivity of the touchpad
I don't know about metacity, but you can enable "zones" with synaptics touchpads. X.org allows for the following configuration: http://www.debuntu.org/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/touchpad.png Lets say your touchpad has a width of 6000 (arbitrary units). By setting "left edge" to e...

I don't speak italian, luckily google translator does
Running Matlab on my NC10, works just fine. Of course you do not have as much raw computing power as a desktop PC, but I use dedicated systems for large simulations anyway.

RE: [NC10] How to fix the sensitivity of the touchpad
First off, the driver does not support multitouch in its true meaning. Using the synaptics tool, you'll see that only one finger is registered. Does the nc10 support true multitouch in windows? I never tried. Secondly, the current X.org server does not allow for multiple pointers, this is as far as ...

RE: [NC10] How to fix the sensitivity of the touchpad
This is not true multitouch anyway, but simply an emulation - the touchpad does not recognize two separate pointers but only registers the added pressure due to the second finger (the Emulate setting is the minimum pressure required for a "two finger" event).

RE: [NC10] New Ubuntu 8.10 repository for our favourite netbook!
Hi, I'm sure thats possible ;) Right now, voRia's packages contain key mappings for metacity (.gconf key bindings, anyway). If you install the packages from the repository and remap the keys in KDE, it should work just fine (If hotkeys in KDE4 are fixed, haven't checked in ages). Also, the KDE4 comp...

RE: [NC10] How to update the ALSA modules
I've just run across a rather weird problem. For some reason, the volume function keys do not actually control the volume. The osd display shows increase/decrease/mute (so the keys themselves do work), but the sound is not affected by it. I already tried all the different available options in the gn...

RE: [NC10] New scripts, updated scripts and a general summary
I prefer the gnome applet for cpu governors. This way I have a visual indicator for the current governor.
Just do dpgk-reconfigure gnome-applets and allow the cpu frequency scaling applet to run with root privileges.

Thanks for the fast answer! :) Obviously, I installed all packages from your repository before posting. I did not try your packages but your guides on jaunty - using (several) atkh5 versions, I was able to load a driver and find networks, but never able to connect (syslog: timeout for dhcpdiscover)....

RE: [NC10] New Ubuntu 8.10 repository for our favourite netbook!
Very nice, this repository probably saved hours of work for me :) For me, it did NOT work with a fresh jaunty install, only with an intrepid one. (i use pxe boot, maybe the installation medium matters). With intrepid, after following your guide, pretty much everything works but sound. Going to bed n...
