Brightness on Samsung R522

Post by smasher220 »

Hi! I have installed Ubuntu 10.4 on my new Samsung R522 in dual boot with windows 7.
the features of my hardware are:

Intel core 2 duo t6500
4GB Ram DDR2
ATI Mobility Radeon 4650
Atheros 5007 wireless

I'm using the free drivers for the video card

Now the problem is: FN +up & FN+down for brightness control and FN+ F7 for switch on/off the wireless card DOESN'T work!!
Wireless, when activate, works good (but is impossible to turn it off); the brightness contol works only with the corrisponding applet and only using page up and page down buttons, else using the mouse to move the fader it disappears.

There is a solution? the bios is upgraded to the last version available.

Thanks for help ;)

Since this is the english section, I've deleted the italian part of your message...

Anyway, first of all welcome to the forum. ;)

Post here the output of the command:

Code: Select all

sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
so I can add support for your model to the packages on the repository.

The packages on my repository already have support for your model.

Did you enable my repository correctly?

Follow the instructions in this thread:
http://www.voria.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=296

Make sure to install 'samsung-backlight' (to enable brightness control through the FN keys) and 'samsung-tools' (to enable all the other FN keys).

Hi!

I have the same problem on my samsung r520. I've installed the following software:
samsung-tools 1.1.3
samsung-backlight 0.13.2
easy-slow-down manager 0.13.2

So every fn-combination works fine except the brightness control. The gnome applet gnome-power-manager 2.3
when i'am trying to change the brightness reports :"cannot change the brightness" - not exact words but my translation from russian

ubuntu 10.04
kernel 2.6.32-24
video card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series

is there any solution?

update:

It looks like something is trying t work but cant. I've just reinstalled easy-slow-down manager 0.13.2 it's 0.13.3 now so after the reboot when i first try the fn-combination the symbol of backlight appeared on the screen but nothing happened the after that fn-combo doesn't make anything
