N210 Wireless - FnF9 not working but Resume-Suspend works

Hi

Apology in advance if this has been discussed before. I had looked through the posts on toggling wireless power management and issue affecting the FnF9 (wireless toggle on/off) key with samsung netbook. But still couldn't figure out how to dig deep enough to solve the problem.

My situation is this:

(i)I have samsung n210 with wireless RTL8192E.
(ii)I have installed the samsung esdm and samsung tools - Everything is working fine.
(iii)I have recently upgraded the kernel to 2.6.38-3 (attempted after suggestion from various posts that it may solve problem such as resume-suspend, multitouch, usb support, etc - and it did solve these problems)

My problem is this:

If I disable wireless through FnF9 key, this is what happened:

the wifi hardware light indicator goes off(as expected) THEN the wifi indicator on the taskbar takes some time (about 20secs) before it realises the wifi had been switched off THEN wifi indicator on the taskbar now says 'disconnected'

now, if I press the FnF9 key again (to get the wifi back on):

the wifi hardware light indicator comes on(as expected) THEN the wifi indicator on the taskbar takes about 20secs before it realises the wifi has been switched on THEN wifi tries to get connected to the AP but unsuccessfully (and intermittently asked for AP password) THEN It keeps retrying to get connected for few minutes before giving up.

However,

If I close the computer lid: Wifi gets disconnected and connected again normally/fine when resume!

I wonder if this has to do with the iwconfig/esdm/inserting & removing module that you had previously discussed? It almost feels like when close/open lid method is used, there is only one driver managing it but when FnF9 button is used, there are two drivers managing it?

I am quite keen to have this FnF9 toggle working - especially when I am doing work in the library and I don't need the wifi to be connected and saving some battery.

As I am very new with Linux(my 2nd week into Linux Mint 10), I have no idea where to start.

also, I am not sure if this is helpful, i had played around with iwconfig - in an attempt to put the wlan0 power on - it doesn't seem to work (still says Power Management Off no matter how many time I do it).

Appreciate if someone can help me, please.

Forgot to mention that:

(i) Bluetooth FnF7 works fine
(ii)If I manually disable the wifi through the icon on the taskbar (by unticking the "enable wireless"), the wireless will be disabled but the wifi hardware light is still on.

Could it possibly be that FnF9 (wireless toggle) key is not assigned to "soft blocked" by the samsung -tools?

Sorry for another stupid question...

Since closing the lid and opening the netbook lid works with WiFI being swtiched on/ff....

Is there any way of making the FnF9 key event = Lid close/open event (but limited to only WiFi being switched on/off) ?

Many thanks for any help.
