Hello,

I have a samsung s3511 laptop (i3-380M, 6gb RAM, Nvidia GeForce 315M 512MB GPU, 15.3" LED Screen, 640GB Hard Drive) running Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Everything works fine except the brightness adjustment (FN+Up/Down Keys). The brightness meter that comes up when you press those buttons works and adjusts as per the inputs I give but the actual brightness doesnt change. I think it is running at 100% brightness constantly. Ive tried all sorts of things but nothing has worked so far.

I have downloaded:
samsung-tools
samsung-backlight
easy-slow-down-manager

.....and tried a host of other terminal commands etc but nothing has worked yet. I tried to use the steps given in the thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=834 but i get a Fatal Error as below:

Code: Select all

[$ sudo modprobe nvidia_bl ]

FATAL:Error inserting nvidia_bl (/lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/updates/dkms/nvidia_bl.ko) ; no such device.

What can I do because I would like to use Ubuntu in lectures but with a 15" screen running at 100% brightness Im not going to get much battery life.

All the best,

Brandon.
