NB30 Samsung Wireless causes kernel panic in Oneiric Ocelot!

I can't get the wireless to work on the NB30 in Lubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) without getting a kernel panic on shutdown/reboot.

I've tried every other option that I know, but it's still a problem.

Also the bluetooth no longer works after I installed a long list of Lubuntu updates.

HELP PLEASE! :( :( :( :( :(

Solved the wireless problems on the NB30 for good! :D

In Lubuntu, I blacklisted all of the Linux wireless drivers for the Realtek wireless on the Samsung NB30. In the LXTerminal, I typed:

Code: Select all

sudo leafpad /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
added the following lines to the end:

blacklist r8192_pci
blacklist r8192usb_pci
blacklist r8192se_pci
blacklist r8192e_pci

SAVE that file and reboot Lubuntu.

Then I installed the XP driver for the wireless using ndiswrapper. Problem seems to be solved and after putting the lid down on the NB30 and resuming from power saving, the wireless works again.

Until the Linux wireless driver can: stop flooding the log files with errors, stop causing kernel panics on reboot/shutdown and start working after power saving, only the ndiswrapper will fix this problem. I think ndiswrapper will only work on 32-bit, but you can still install the PAE kernel for the NX (Execute Disable) protection to work on 32-bit by copying and pasting this into the Terminal to install the PAE kernel:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-generic-pae linux-headers-generic-pae

I hope this helps other NB30 owners and I would definitely recommend Lubuntu 11.10 for the best performance, although you can't currently turn off the touchpad's "tap to click" and "edge scrolling", although you can install and use gpointing-device-settings but the settings won't be "remembered" - you will have to open that program from the "Run" menu and apply the settings for each session.

To improve performance even more, install "zRam" if you are using Ubuntu, Lubuntu (or other Ubuntu variants) as of version 11.04 - and later versions - by adding each line to the Terminal and pressing Enter:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shnatsel/zram
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install zramswap-enabler
Read more about zRam here:

The NB30 seems to be working okay now. :)
Except the Bluetooth. :-[

Update: I got the wireless working by installing blueman.
