Does this mean that the dead webcam issue is fixed with this kernel?

No, the webcam support is broken in kernel 2.6.30 final, too.
The issue should be reported on kernel bugzilla to get a fix as as soon as possible (maybe it has already been reported, I have not checked).

Hi,

Screen Backlight support seems not working with 2.6.30-10. Works fine with -9.

I realise that I am replying a decade later to the Skype config question but nevertheless here are my Skype settings that have ALWAYS worked:

Sound in: HDA Intel (hm:Intel,0)
Sound out: pulse
Ringing: pulse

good luck

Kernel 2.6.30-10 enables KMS by default, breaking screen backlight support.
You can disable KMS by creating a new .conf file in /etc/modprobe.d/ containing this line:

Code: Select all

options i915 modeset=0
or you can use the kernel 2.6.30-10 from my repository, in which I've disabled KMS by default.

I'm actually talking about the 2.6.30-10 from your repo, but thanks for the tip, I'll try it ;)

I'm considering the removal of kernel 2.6.30* from the repository, because of its instability... more informations here.

Updated kernel on repository to version 2.6.31-3 (based on upstream 2.6.31-rc3), and the main post of this thread to reflect changes.

There is a bug report on kernel bugzilla concerning the broken support for webcam with newer kernels.
