I have installed ubuntu on the new Samsung NC 210

After installing the Samsung-Tools and Samung-Backlight some of the keys work, like Sound regulation.
But unfortunately Brightness adjustment doesnt work. As soon as i press FN and UP or DOWN for the adjustment, the GUI shows the bar going up or down, but in reality the brightness doesnt change. Even worse is that after pressing the combination once, the command is executed indefinitely, wich makes any more input via the keybord impossible until i restart.

It would be great if you could add Support for the NC 210
Product name: NC210/NC110

Thank you in advance.
Hi

Take a look to the different threads.

There are plenty which are about these issues.

I have newly bought Samsung N145Plus Notebook. It fails to work with samsung-backlight driver (both version, one from voria ubuntu ppa and another from github).
The problem is that we don't have this device in samsung_dmi_table.
After some tweaking I have added code to support it
{
.ident = "N145Plus",
.matches = {
DMI_MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD"),
DMI_MATCH(DMI_PRODUCT_NAME, "N250P"),
DMI_MATCH(DMI_BOARD_NAME, "N250P"),
},
.callback = dmi_check_cb,
},
I hope it will be helpfull.

Thanks Denis for having shared this information.

I'll try this for the next stable release of (k)ubuntu

Where is the samsung_dmi_table located (path)?

My backlight was working before the recent samsung backlight update, and now it is not :(

Code: Select all

$ sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
N150P/N210P/N220P
Please add support voRia :)

Edit

I managed to fix the brightness, It also fixed the flickering issue. :D

I went to /etc/modprobe.d/samsung-backlight.conf and changed

Code: Select all

options samsung-backlight use_sabi=0 levels=8
to

Code: Select all

options samsung-backlight use_sabi=0 levels=8 force=1
Adding force=1, doesnt do anything bad does it? like add extra strain on the cpu.

Hi,
I've added the option force=1 to the latest 'samsung-backlight' package on the repository. Thanks for reporting. ;)

Anyway, the option does not do anything bad, it forces the module to load even when the module thinks it should not be loaded (as in your case, since the module does not recognize your netbook model and then refuses to load).

@voRia

Your welcome, and thanks for the explanation :)

I just did a fresh reinstall of natty, and confirmed working straight out of the box :D

Hello all ;D
First of I want to introduce myself, I'm Lrno and i'm new to this forum and also pretty new to the Linux world. I hope I can help you add support to another Samsung model.

Well, last Friday I bought a Samsung NP-NC110-A02 (NC110 for the rest of the world ;D ) and basically it's driving me nuts. The symptoms are well known by most of you Fn keys not working, no brightness control, no mouse multi-finger gestures, no wi-fi connection... and so on. I think most of my problems are easily fixable but the thing is, I fail to find stuff as I am new to the OS. I am yet to test the lappy thoroughly to give you a better insight into what it's not working properly.

By now I just wanted to say hello to the forum and share my experience with all of you.
Hopefully, I could help add support to my little Sammy and learn something at the same time :-[

Thanks in advance.
Lrno

I have just discovered your repository and added Samsung-tools and Samsung-backlight to my NC110 (which has very recently replaced another stolen netbook).
The results are outstanding, making the netbook much easier to work with when running on battery in brightly lit areas.
Thank you,
Bruce Crowther

Hi, I'm from Argentina and just registered to say thank you for you work.
My English is very basic, but I hope you'll understand.
I'm very surprised that you're just one person. I wish I could help you, but I'm a total newbie in Linux. I've bought this netbook with W7, and I wanted to try some Linux, so I installed Ubuntu because it's said to be the most friendly linux distro for beginners. Thanks to your tools it all works perfect.

This is my netbook:
N150P, with 2 Gb RAM, Intel N10 Integrated Graphics, Broadcom 4313 wireless adapter.
Ubuntu 11.04 (2.6.38-8-generic)

When you need some testing on your upcoming development, just post your needs and it will be a lot of us ready to help.
Thank you voria!

Gracias voria!

Hi,

I have been reading this forum and really like the tools. I have managed to get my Samsung NC210 working with Ubuntu 11.04.

There is only one problem: The touchpad

I have tried all kind of things, but is is still recognized as a wheel mouse.

Is there anyone who can tell me what to do? I would like to use the two finger scrolling.

Thanks Robert.

Hi Robert, i'm trying to work that out too, but as far as i've read it seems to be an ubuntu bug that they haven't sort out just yet.
However it seems to be a patch for dell Vostro13 which may just work but it needs to recompile the kernel which is way out of my knowledge, reason why i haven't tried it yet.
I leave you the link in case it is of any help.

Also, this
http://www.voria.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=694 is a solution from this very forum, that apparently used to work, but it seems that the Xorg.conf file is no longer used in the new distros :(
If anybody else has any other thoughts on this matter, it would be really appreciated.
Also if this post is out of place in the forum, please move it and i apologize for the inconvenient.

Hi, everything is ok, ex backlight settings using gnome hotkeys on my RV511-S05.
sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name == RV411/RV511/E3511/S3511/RV711
any advice?

I found this patch on launchpad and applied it to Ubuntu 11.04 (kernel 2.6.38-11) on my NC210. After a reboot, the touchpad is recognised and I can stop mouse clicks from the touchpad, and activate two finger scrolling.

The patch and instructions are at:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... omments/64

Thanks to Voria I have the backlight and most function keys working. With this patch, which they say should eventually make it upstream into Ubuntu, I have a very good Ubuntu netbook.

Hello

I've bought a Samsung N100. I've installed Ubuntu 11.04 and samsung-tools was futile on it, I guess it's a new model, but I don't know. Now I'm having problems with brightness (Ubuntu detect keys as brightness control but it does nothing) and the touchpad scroll is not working.

When I installed and runned samsung-backlight on it, the screen got black and the netbook became itself slow. Keyboard combinations does not match.

Thanks in advance and sorry if I've written something wrong in English.

Code: Select all

sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
RV420/RV520/RV720
Backlight won't work.
