For those who want to have the Samsung Tools installed with translated texts:
Please check before installing the Samsung Tools (for that : follow the "how to" in the first page of this thread) that the gettext package is installed on your machine.
In case it is not, install it:in terminal the usual sudo apt-get install gettext command.
Failing to have gettext on your machine before installing the Samsung Tools will prevent the automatic choice and display of the translated (if existing) texts.English will then be the default language for the Samsung Tools screens.

News for Ubuntu Lucid users only:
an initial test version of 'Samsung Tools' is available on the repository.
Add the repository to your Lucid installation as usual, then use this command to install: Bug reports, questions, suggestions are all welcome.

Perfect timing. Just upgraded to beta1 yesterday with no fn-key support as always. Thinking, wether you already had something ready for lucid i reenabled voria ppa et voila, there it is. My NC10 is only half the fun without you ;-)

As far as i tested it, everything works. I like the new default state for certan settings on startup, so webcam and bluetooth are only enabled when i need them.

P.S.: does anyone know why vertical scrolling doesn't work on my NC10 under lucid?

Strange things happen after suspend to ram, which i use quite often.

bluetooth ist off und set to default to off
wlan is off and set to last setting

after suspend to ram

bluetooth ist on
wlan is still off but the wlan-led is back on

btw, would it be possible to let samsung-tools print out the state of all devices at once?

There are yet some problems in the logic and times used to restore devices status, I'll fix them as soon as I can.

Switched to Lucid yesterday and am very unpleased to say, that the issues from kernel xx.31 are still in xx.32, meaning the freeze (almost forgot about it) and the fn keys not working. I (somehow) was sure, these issues would be fixed in kernel 32. I installed Samsung-tools from the repo however, and can say that, besides I have to use strg + f9 to achieve this, the wlan-led is switching off when deactivating wireless, wich is a thing, I was looking forward to. Thank you Voria!

Besides that Lucid is running ok I guess, I don't experience much strange behavior, but it seems a bit slower than Karmic. Hopefully this will be fixed until 29th.

I've written a little gnome applet.
It's already available in the latest 'samsung-tools' package for Lucid on the repository (version '0.1~ppa9~loms~lucid').

A little note to translators.
There is this new text, which is used in the tooltip shown when hovering the mouse on the "Toggle method:" option, in the 'samsung-tools-preferences' dialog: Since I was unable to add a comment for translators directly inside the translation files, I'm writing it here:

Every line should not be longer than approximately 65 chars, or else it will be automatically cut off and the layout will be lost. So please add newlines where needed, even if this does not respect the original text.

Concerning the FN keys problem, it has been fixed definitely in kernel >= 2.6.32, anyway support for various models is yet needed to be added in the udev packages, and I will provide it on my repository if it will not be there when Lucid will be officially released. Anyway, the fact that kernel does not need to be recompiled for adding support to new models it's a great step forward.
Also about the freezes, if the problem will not be fixed at the time Lucid is released, I will provide fixed packages on the repository.

I have installed as above using lucid. How do I see the applet?

Click on a gnome panel with the right button, and select 'Add to Panel...'.
In the new window search for 'Samsung Tools' and add it.

Everything is working brilliantly on my NC10. Graphically Lucid is much, much better.

Not working in N148...
NO function keys working after upgrade to lucid, and installing samsung tools.
