I posted my experiments in another thread, but maybe it would have been better here…

To summarize, I have a samsung R580 and if I install the samsung-backlight module, I experience the same problem as you. However, what is quite peculiar is that if I rmmod the module, then the Fn keys work properly.
So, for me, the only steps that work is to boot with the BL module and then remove it.

I tested, it didn't work on n308 in XFCE and KDE

Removing the 'samsung-backlight' module just after the KDE session is started fixes the problem on Samsung NC10.
