Maverick hangs

Hi there

I've been using the voria kernels and utils with my samsung np-150 since lucid without any problems whatsoever.

For a week now I've been testing maverick with the voria ppa enabled and it works superb except for one thing: it won't recover after suspend for around half the times I put it on suspend.

Before I start investigating on it somewhere else I wanted to check with you guys if someone is experiencing the same on maverick, of course.

TIA

Ignacio

Hallo,
I have exactly the same Problem, after Suspend it wakes up there is short HDD activity, but the screen never comes up and after a second the HDD stops also.

It is a Samsung N220 netbook.

The problem is not related to the voria ppa since it also happens with the official kernel. I've been doing some tests and I can say for now it is not related to the wifi drivers (atheros in my case), the backlight driver, or the sound drivers. We also have to keep in mind that maverick isn't released yet... I've been browsing through launchpad to see if anyone has experienced these problems, but I haven't found anyone yet. I'll keep you posted...

Sorry in my previous post I said "official kernel", but I meant "ubuntu kernel". Anyway, after some more testing (I thought it might have something to do with X), I've gone with a bold decission: I've installed the lucid kernel (2.6.32) from the voria ppa in Maverick and voilĂ , it does not hang anymore after suspend.

So, the problem lies within the 2.6.35 kernel from which Fortunato does his modifications, which is ubuntu's. Now I'd like to know whether this is ubuntu's fault, or the problem must be reported upstream. Maybe Fortunato can help us a little further since his knowledge of the linux kernel will be much larger than mine (I would not mind building a kernel myself, but it's been years since I've done it and now my only computer is this netbook and I don't know how long it will take for it to build it)

Same thing here happening with stock kernel as well on my n220. Which really sucks because 10.04 worked really well for me.

I've tried to recompile Fortunato's kernel changing some parameters in the liux config file. I followed the ubuntu wiki page on recompiling the kernel, but the script failed.

Fortunato, could you help me with some guidelines in recompiling your kernel?

TIA

I also have the same problem on my N150. From what I can see, the problem is also occuring to people on the ubuntu forum :

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... ost9940054

I tried the solution posted there. It unfortunately didn't worked.

On the other hand, my Dell Inspiron 6400 has no problem with suspend... And everything was working with the previous kernel. I have to boot on the older one on my N150 so I can suspend (but I loose the Voria kernel addons when I do so).

Are there any pristine kernels in ubuntu, which we could try, just to test if this comes from some ubuntu patches?
I don't have experience compiling ubuntu kernels and on this laptop it will take a fair amount of time. I could try compiling one on my gentoo desktop, but don't have the time for it now.

Tried to hibernate - hang.

I think kernel bug will be resolved soon as bug with several KBD layout crazy switching.

For me, Maverick is has one good sign - now power consumption (of battery) is back to normal ratio (like is in Karmic) after high values in Lucid and, subjectively, overall work is more smoothly.

Having the same problem here with Maverick and the NB30. It won't come back on when I put the lid down and try to power on again. I try the power button and nothing happens.
I didn't have problems with the previous Ubuntu Netbook Edition (10.04).

Any help much appreciated.

This is kernel "surprises" - could be drivers, acpi or some simillar. It is necessary to wait a bit till its update.

I remember recent kernel update of 1 or 2 days ago. At least, after its update - I can now go and wake "Standby".

Just had some kernel updates for the NB30, but it still won't resume from standby. :(

I've reported this bug to Ubuntu on Launchpad. I don't know if they can help?
