Testing needed for the new Samsung Tools 2.0

Post by voria »

Hello everyone,
I've uploaded a test package for 'samsung-tools' on my testing repository. This new version drops support for the old 'easy-slow-down-manager' kernel module, and makes use of the new 'samsung-laptop' interface instead.

Please test it.
You'll have to uninstall the old 'samsung-backlight' and 'easy-slow-down-manager' packages and install 'samsung-laptop', also available on the testing repository.

Please note that these packages are built for the soon-to-be-released Oneiric and will not work on Natty or other Ubuntu versions.

And now, another call, for translators this time. :D

Some strings have changed in the latest versions of Samsung Tools, and now some of the translations need to be updated. Please visit this page and help finishing them!
Feel free to add new translations too! ;)

Please consider a little donation to keep the 'Linux On My Samsung' project up and running. Thank you!

Hi Voria,
there's a backlight issue.
When going idle the screen turns off after a while, normally with a key press or a mouse move it turns back on, but it doesn't happen. I have to go into suspension vith fn+moon then wake the computer (but i read that if I remove the screen lock it's a matter of increasing brightness with fn+up, so I removed screen lock and I'm going to test it).

Using N140 with Oneiric and the brand new samsung tools.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/59567/sa ... ight-issue This one has a N150 (found the question while wandering for a solution, perhaps is a samsung issue)

I'm not posting in the italian section cause here there's more people :D

EDIT: Ok, verificato che basta fare CTRL+UP e si accende lo schermo :)

Hello,

Another backlight issue to report.

Samsung N145Plus (france) + >Oneiric up to date. +repository LOMS main OK + latest samsung-laptop & samsung-tools (from link you gave in this post, dpkg in terminal, everything went OK)

when I do (fn) + up (intending to add more backlight) => the screen turns black, if I do another time => it returns normal. no changes in backlight.

when I do (fn) + down => the applet indicates that the backlight in going down, but nothing happens, the backlight remains the same)

On ubuntu 11.04, everything was fine. any tips? Any command line to check bug report in terminal?

Hi
I haven't installed the Oneiric yet.
But, looking at the source code, it looks like the new samsung-laptop driver doesn't support the PCI method of controlling brightness, only SABI. If that's indeed the case, then it's real pity. I liked the PCI mode and used it for a good while. At the very least, it gives a wider range of brightness (see "samsung-backlight - wider brightness range (fyi)"). Also, I've got an impression that this mode gives less trouble (although I don't remember a concrete example off the top of my head to give here).
Any chance to add support for PCI mode as well (you can copy it from 'easy-slow-down-manager') ?

Hello,

I have tested samsung-tools_2.0 with samsung-laptop_1.0 on my NP-R530-JA0DE (Nolan).

Fn-keys for:

a)Touchpad: ok

b)WLAN: It is not just "on" - "off - "on". I press the key an WLAN goes "off". After that WLAN doesn't easily goes "on". If I press the key several times I get WLAN "on" again.

c)Brightness: The pop-up window appears, but the brightness of my screen doesn't change.

d)Fan-speed: ok

e)Mute: ok

f)Battery: ok

g)Backlight off/on: ok

h)standby : ok

Func-key for Wlan is not working.

Thanks for the good work!!

Hello everybody,

Thanks voRia for your excellent job on Samsung laptop.

I recently buy a Samsung NP900X3A (Serie 9) and installed ubuntu 11.10.
I'm pretty happy with it. :)
Screen brightness and sound management (up - down - mute) function keys work out of the box with ubuntu. After installing your samsung-tool 2.0, the touchpad function key works, but I have two other keys for keyboard brightness and when I try it today after updating samsung-tool, It seems that the keyboard brightness (always on at the moment) dosen't change, but disable the keyboard and i didn't find a solution to enable it. (unless restarting).
On windows, I've multi level of brightness for the keyboard, like for the screen.

If you have an idea to resolve that issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi folks!

First of all, thank you very much voRia! ;)

I'm using a Samsung N145 Plus (N145-JP01ES). Here you're my Fn-keys test results:

a)Touchpad: ok

b)WLAN: It doesn't work

c)Brightness: ok

d)Fan-speed: it doesn't work

e)Mute: ok

f)Battery: ok

g)Backlight off/on: it doesn't work

h)standby : ok

There are still few Fn-keys to be fixed, but I really appreciate your work. Without this new release, it was impossible to have the Fn-keys working in Ubuntu 11.10!
