HELP - KARMIC UPGRADE NOT WORKING PROPERLY ON MY SAMSUNG

Post by deanhall »

hi, i've just signed up to this forum as I've found it very helpful in the past. i upgraded to karmic only a few days ago via update manager from Jaunty 9.04 and now I seem to have a number of issues

i've logged these on launchpad but things have gone quiet ;)

i'm wondering if anyone can help me

Major Issues for me since upgrade

Fan is constantly on (even when netbook just booted). concerning for battery life and life of fan
Karmic defaults to recovery mode on mode (i dual boot) after I select the ubuntu option. i then get a black screen with a list of scripts. i googled and found out if I type startx it will take me into my system. when I log out out I get the same black screen but the system does not power down. i have to kill it using the power on/off button. very worrying for damage to hard disk!

hope you can help :)

you should download the new ubuntu/kubuntu karmic iso, then with "unetbootin" (on windows, download it here) you put the iso on a USB stick, reboot and copy all the data you need (music, video, and all the other files) from the ubuntu partition to your data/win xp partition then you start the new installation and overwrite the previous installation selecting the same partition, fill all the forms, install and reboot, now you have ubuntu/kubuntu karmic dualbooting with Xp.

i think you shouldn't have any other problems, if you don't trust me you can wait for more answers..
