Brightness level can't be changed - Samsung R730

Post by zinzolin »

Hello,

I just discovered your work and I first wanted to thank you for all your work.

I have a Samsung R730 with Ubuntu 10.04 64bits installed. I had the joy to see all my hotkeys working once I installed samsung-tools and the others from the ppa. There is nonetheless a surpise : pressing the brightness hotkeys make the gnome notification appear, but without being able to decrease the brightness.
More specifically, the brightness is always at 100%. Pressing the "more brightness" hotkey make the gnome notification appear showing that brightness cannot be augmented more. Everything is fine until now. But when I press the "less brightness hotkey", the gnome-notification appears and show me a one-level decrease (without me seeing the effect). Pressing a second time "less brightness"puts the brightness back to 100%.

Do you have any idea to what may cause this problem ?

Thanks in advance !

PS: sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name gives me : R530/R730/P590

I have exactly the same problem with a Samsung R530.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello

I also had problem with brightness on my R580, using a 64-bits kubuntu edition. You could try the workaround I found: http://www.voria.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=485
