Natty and Voria

Post by wamukota »

I am testing Ubuntu Natty Beta-1 and cannot install the Voria Samsung PPA Tools on my box. As there is less than a month before the final release of Natty, it would be nice if we could test the Samsung tools/backlight/... during that period, so that e know if anything must be altered.

I have Natty and it actually work without any glitch except for phc-intel. The only thing is to not install Samsung-wireless since it would installed a old kernel.

Hmm I would like to know how you installed them.

This is the result I have when I add the ppa to my repos andthen update the repos:

Code: Select all

alain@N210:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:voria/ppa
alain@N210:~$ sudo apt-get update
,,,,
W: Ophalen van http://ppa.launchpad.net/voria/ppa/ubuntu/dists/natty/main/source/Sources is mislukt 404 Not Found

W: Ophalen van http://ppa.launchpad.net/voria/ppa/ubuntu/dists/natty/main/binary-i386/Packages is mislukt 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

How do I fix this problem, because obviously there are no Voria packages for Natty yet

Yeah it would be nice of course.

Don't just ask, you can begin the tests and check compatibility packages or the new kernel brought by Natty (2.6.38) thank you.

You just have to change the Natty repository into maverick: for that, edit your sources.list and change the name of the edition.

I have just been testing Natty beta 1 on my N150 Plus. It seems to work pretty well.

Out of the box the following work:

* Wifi. It looks like Natty includes a new driver for the Broadcom card (brcm80211). It is offering me the choice to install the Broadcom third party driver, though the brcm80211 driver seems to work well at the moment.

* Suspend/wake. No problems here.

* Sound, video. No problems.

* The normal stuff - display, keyboard etc.

The only issue is with the backlight.

To fix this, I added the Voria PPA, but changed the distribution name in the line from natty to lucid, installed samsung-backlight, rebooted and voila! I could change the brightness.

The samsung-tools package will not install (yet). It has a dependency on xbindkeys which is not installable. Maybe this will change in the final release.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Hi,

I have a Samsung N220 and I am also using Natty.
I had to adapt grub to make backlight-support working, see http://www.stewartpratt.com/?p=443
Apart from that samsung-backlight works fine, just as Jnix described.

Thanks for the coding of voria!

I have installed both samsung-tools and samsung-backlight on my natty install (I have a N230), and everything works flawlessly. The only problem is that the applet-indicator of samsung-tools does not show up anymore in the top panel, and I haven't been able to have it there. Didn't care too much about it though, if I want to open the samsung tools preferences, I just run it from the dash.

I'm having a weird issue with Natty (64-bit) on my Samsung N150 Plus. When I boot up my laptop and log in to the Unity environment, brightness cannot be changed, though the on screen display shows the brightness level apparently changing when the function keys are changed. When I log out, the brightness level can be changed at the log in screen, and logging back in, I then have no problems changing the brightness.

This is very odd. Has anyone else experienced this weird behaviour?
