window too large on my N150

Post by orpheus »

Hi,

I have a notebook samsung N150 with ubuntu 11.04 and gnome 2.32.1.

I have a problem with the windows too large for my screen (10 inches), and with for result I can not access the bottom of the window, or some functions when to click next, or end, for example.
Is there a utility to force the window to get a good screen size, or a solution ?

Thanks

I get an utilitary, "CompizConfig" and with that I can resize the window with the shortcuts in the dashboard.
But I would like have a good screen size, in screen size config menu I have just 640 X 480, 800 x 600, and 1024 x 600.
Maybay it's possible to get a way for find the good size ?
Or a way for force the window for take the good size ?

Hi Orpheus,

I don't have a N150 but I do have a 10" screen and I go through the same problem often.
I am a newbie on linux and wished I could resize all windows to reach the buttons at the bottom but I've found out that many Ubuntu windows cannot be made smaller.

My solution (however rudimentary), I move the windows holding the "Alt" key down, so that I leave the bottom of the window visible on the screen. Using the Alt key, I can move windows picking them from anywhere instead of just the titlebar and so I am able to move them further up the screen.

Not much of a great solution I know but that is how I manage for now. I believe that they have thought about this problem in the netbook distros (such us the Remix) but I have not tried any.

I hope it helps somehow, and sorry for my awful english.

Lrno.

Thanks for your reply and your solution.

I have as an alternative to reduce the windows with a right click on the windows shortcuts in the dashborad.
But I would like to find a definitive solution for force the windows to have the good size.
I think the solution is to add more screen size, my actually screen size is 1024 to 600, and I think if I can add the 1024 to 640 screen size it's better.

If I find this manipulation, I post here the solution.

OK, thanks.

I try your solution, it's correct for little excess, and with a good glasses lol.
But for my problem it isn't the solution, the excess is too big.

I'm sure the solution is in add some screen size for find the good size.

Thanks
