Re: Some considerations about the future of the repository
I spent the afternoon upgrading to Karmic RC, and after some manual intervention everything seemed fine. The new boot splashes are awful, as far as I am concerned, but I don't boot my NC10 unless there is a kernel update. So up until 20 minutes ago, I would have fully agreed with the motion of "who ...

RE: Intel driver 2.8.0 stable
The easiest way would be
on the command line, this should give something like
Code: Select all
grep -A 1 "Module intel:" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Code: Select all
(II) Module intel: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.6.0, module version = 2.8.1

RE: Intel driver 2.8.0 stable
Is this for (the default) 100 runs or for 500 (as my timings)? If it's for the latter, I feel v-e-r-y frustrated :-/'okon3' pid='1747' dateline='1250326795' wrote: umh, i don't know which driver i have, i think the ones on voria repository, but i have a total time of 34.92

Droid Fonts
Somehow I forgot to post this until now... Using the "Droid" fonts on the small screen of our NC10s looks nice and allows more characters to fit. They have been designed for the smaller screens of portable Android devices and are easily installable on Jaunty. A nice writeup is at Get Android’s fonts ...

Performance Values
Hmm, I checked the differences in performance between 2.7.1 (EXA) and 2.8.0 (UXA) with GtkPerf (500 runs) on kernel 2.6.31-5. They are some kind of a mixed blessing :s http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/409145/perf.png Overall the perfomance ist about the same (differences up to 10% are neglicible, and will ...

RE: Intel driver 2.8.0 stable
Thanks :) Just a note: are you using kernel 2.6.28 or 2.6.31? I've just noticed that using this new driver with kernel 2.6.28 results in bad performances, but it works great with kernel 2.6.31. The kernel is fully updated to 2.6.31-5. Basically I'm using your PPA and just added your Intel 2.8.0 DEB ...

RE: Intel driver 2.8.0 stable
I installed the driver yesterday, and as I'm on holiday I just used it for receiving and sending a few mails and browsing the net (with a little Flash content). So far it is stable and did not show any instabilities. UNR does "feel" a bit slower than 2.7.1 with EXA (I'm not using compiz on the ...

RE: [NC10] Kernel 2.6.31
First - the webcam now works flawlessly for me, like any other component of my NC10.
And also a very big "thank you", voRia, for all your efforts and providing the PPA - it certainly saves all of us endless hours of trying

Nautilus optimized for smaller screens
Even if the main reason behind the changes in Nautilus' user interface is not netbook related, the patches in http://davidsiegel.org/nautilus-simplified/ make for much better screen usage on small displays.
Certainly worth a try, especially with UNR as a PPA for Jaunty is included....
