I'm owner of Samsung NP-N150-JP01PL.
In my case after installing samsung-backlight and samsung-tools I use following sollution with success:
1. edit /etc/default/grub
sudo nano /etc/defautl/grub
2. change line from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX ...

On the NF210, this just removes the functionality of the brightness buttons. In other words, without the line it would at least bring up the dialog. It now takes no action.
If your blue buttons are going crazy, did you edit the files to put the polling for your netbook?

In fact, writing in /sys/class/backlight/samsung/brightness works in a console (outside X), it's only under X that something seems to force the brightness to either 0 or 7, nothing between!

With the kernel 2.6.35-24.43~ppa1~loms~maverick and samsung-backlight 0.13.3~ppa1~loms~maverick on Xubuntu 10.10, on my Samsung NF310, I cannot set the brightness step by step, only the min or max brightness, with the keyboard or writing in /sys/class/backlight/samsung/brightness.
