this month or next Linux Mint 18.1 (Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial) comes out. I am already considering the update.

Most important: INSTALL IN CMOS only via BIOS!!!!
if you fail to do this samsung-tools and platform are not loaded by the kernel.
My steps to make it work:
The ********* are for my reference. Don't copy paste them
sudo nano /lib/udev/keymaps/samsung-900x3e ...

There are steps to follow for elantech:
cd /usr/src/
sudo dkms remove psmouse/elantech-v6 --all
sudo wget http://www.ouam.fr/~madko/ubuntu/elantech/psmouse-elantech-v7.tar.bz2
sudo tar jxvf psmouse-elantech-v7.tar.bz2
sudo dkms add -m psmouse -v elantech-v7
sudo dkms build -m psmouse -v elantech ...
cd /usr/src/

Had the fan replaced under warrenty, beautifully quiet now.....

You can check very easy. Take a livecd/usb and boot in UEFI mode.
Now browse to /sys/devices/platform/
no folder samsung there
Reboot into the Livecd/usb in legacy mode:
/sys/devices/platform/samsung is there!!!
Now browse to /sys/devices/platform/
