no desktop after latest updates

Is anybody else using 10.04 and just installed a small bundle of updates yesterday? After rebooting, my system comes up normally, with a desktop background (so the problem is not one of graphics), but I have no icons to access any of my applications. I am unfortunately unsure of what packages were installed yesterday, since I usually just click on "install updates" after only a cursory glance at them. I am using an NC10 with Ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix. Thanks for any feedback.

If anybody else is having this same, or a similar, problem, it appears that it only affects Lucid, was an issue related to the latest xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core updates, and is being or has been fixed. You can follow what's been going on in the Ubuntu forums:

I had the same issue, has been fixed yesterday by another update.
