Samsung R525, FN keys for brightness control doesn't work
Posted: 11 Dec 2010, 15:13
Hello guys!
I'm French and this is my first message in English, I do not dominate the language, excuse me for errors that may occur in the text
I installed only Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - 64 - Lucid Lynx on my new Samsung R525.
I completely uninstalled Windows 7 and i formated the HDD for Linux ( /, /home, /swap )
The features of my hardware are:
AMD Athlon II (Dual-Core M320), F= 2.1GHz, RAM= 3Go, HDD= 320Go
Video Card : ATI RS880M (seen in Bios), ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470 (in Samsung doc)
BIOS Information
Vendor: Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
Version: 03NS
Release Date: 04/10/2010
Address: 0xE4000
Runtime Size: 112 kB
ROM Size: 1024 kB
BIOS Revision: 3.0
The kernel at the first install is 2.6.32-21 and the FN +up & FN+down for brightness control doesn't work.
I added repository followed the instructions in this thread : viewtopic.php?f=3&t=296
The kernel and three softwares were installed :
linux-headers-2.6.32-26-generic
samsung-tools (1.1.4~ppa1~loms~lucid)
samsung-backlight (0.13.2~ppa1~loms~lucid)
easy-slow-down-manager (0.13.2~ppa1~loms~lucid)
but the FN +up & FN+down for brightness control doesn't work.
It just had a kernel update, I switched to version : 2.6.32-27-generic, but still brightness control doesn't work.
The output of the 2 commands :
sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name = R425/R525
lspci -nn :

04:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller [11ab:4354]
As that does not work I tried also: xbacklight (seen here in french :http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/retro-eclairage)
The command xbacklight = 50, sends me the following result :
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 13 (RRChangeOutputProperty)
Value in failed request: 0x89
Serial number of failed request: 16
Current serial number in output stream: 17
These are the results of my fruitless search!
I hope soon to control the backlight on my R525.
@ Voria:
Thanks for the great job you did for us on Linux.
What do you advise me to do to solve this problem?
