I have to say the Ubuntu repository, hotfixes, scripts, all work terrific.
With all of this already set up and running on 8.10, what is the best way to go to 9.04? I originally wasn't, but looking at the features and boot times, I changed my mind.
will upgrading work, or is it better to do a fresh install?
8.10 to 9.04: upgrade or complete re-install?
RE: 8.10 to 9.04: upgrade or complete re-install?
I honestly do not know which one is better, however I am much interested to find out.
I am also considering the netbook remix. currently i am downloading the image and will load it on a usb live disc to give it a try.

RE: 8.10 to 9.04: upgrade or complete re-install?
After reading ubuntuforums, I decided with fresh re-install (using the ubuntu remix version- I figure it has a few additional boot/power tweaks with it).
Installation went OK. Booted up, and switched to the more "classic" desktop (rather than the iphone-looking interface).
After running the jaunty nc10 repository fixes and rebooting, the gnome-panel fails to load on startup. there are some errors when loading in terminal (but it does load). however, after rebooting, it goes away again. uninstalling all the netbook remix stuff fixed the problem. I'm not sure if I'm gonna try to re-install the "remix" packages just yet... anyone else have this problem?
I encountered a problem connecting a microsoft bluetooth mouse in Jaunty, and the fix for it is here:

RE: 8.10 to 9.04: upgrade or complete re-install?
I always end up to do a fresh re-install. I have the habit to customize a lot all my installations, with custom packages, patches etc, so I would spend more time fixing differences after an upgrade than redoing them on a fresh install

hi all,
i did an upgruade from 8.10 to 9.04. i just want to say that everything went good. i had no problems. the upgrade installer uninstalled skype, virtualbox and some other packages i dont remember. the only problem was that on every boot init tried to load the virtual box kernel modules. but the even were not installed anymore. so i installed virutal box ose from ubuntu repos and unsinstalled it with apt-get option --purge. after that i had to remove the symbolic links in every /etc/rcx (runlevel ?). after that there was no attempt to load the virtual box modules anymore.
bye
